Iowa Valley Community College District Brags

Having a community college in your community is an asset that benefits the workforce, high school students, college students, and non-traditional students. There are a lot of outstanding accomplishments being achieved by students, faculty, and staff at Iowa Valley.

  • Men’s Soccer team won the 2018 Region XI Championship. Head coach, Rafael Martinez, received the Coach-of-the-Year recognition. MCC sophomore, Rafael Vacas, was also awarded Region XI’s top honor as the Conference Player-of-the-Year. Three others were also selected to the conference tournament first-team.

  • MCC Women’s Volleyball team had one of its most successful seasons in 2018 with a record of 34 (W) and 5 (L).

  • Fall 2018, 36 Students from MCC and Iowa Valley Grinnell campus were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society for two-year colleges.

  • Iowa Valley Continuing Education hosted over 160 students from East Marshall, West Marshall, and South Tama high schools for a financial literacy fair.

  • Ag instructor, Kevin Butt, was recognized by the national Association of Community College Trustees in New York City as one of five regional community college faculty who earned the distinction of 2018 Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year.

  • The LPN program is currently ranked #1 in Iowa based on having the best board exam passage rate percentage.

  • The Equine program at Ellsworth is ranked as the 2nd best program in the country. The student horse judging team also placed 5th out of 65 teams at the National Quarter Horse Association Horse Judging competition.

  • The Precision Agriculture program was recognized as the third best program in the country.

  • At the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations Conference in October 2018, Ann Rubenbauer, Marketing Department Coordinator of Creative Services, was awarded a bronze medallion for her promotional pieces she created to market the Orpheum Theater Center’s successful “18 Men Who Can Cook” fundraising event.
