At Marshalltown Schools we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of activities to get our students involved. In fact, if we tried to list all or our extracurricular activities it would take up this whole page and more.
Like competing in athletics?
There is a sport for you on the Bobcats.
How about after school sports?
Lenihan Intermediate School has an ever-growing intramural program open to all skill levels.
What if you’re more interested in robotics?
We have a state-qualifying robotics team at Marshalltown High School and successful Lego League teams of students from Miller Middle School and Lenihan Intermediate School.
Have an interest in possibly working in the health care field in the future?
How about the Health Careers Club at MHS, which visits hospitals and offers learning opportunities from top professionals in the field.
Interested in drama?
We produce top-notch musicals and plays. Just ask anyone who went to “The Addams Family” musical last fall at Marshalltown High School and you’ll know we not only have talented students, but the resources to tap into that talent and make it shine.
Music is in our wheelhouse as we have plenty of opportunities to get involved in band, choir, and orchestra. Our marching band is currently preparing for a trip to perform at Disney World in Orlando, Florida during spring break in March, 2020. Believe me, excitement is building for that trip in my recent conversations with band members.
There are dozens of other groups that I haven’t mentioned yet. As students find their niche in one of these groups, they also feel more connected to the school they attend. It’s proven that students who feel more connected perform better academically.
We continue to look into more activities for students to get involved in with a goal of increasing participation levels. As you can see, there’s plenty of opportunities there for the taking for our students.
